Robert Taylor scored two goals, including the game-winning goal off a free kick, as fifth-seeded Mahwah defeated 12th-seeded River Dell, 3-2, in the first round of the North Jersey, Section 1, Group 2 tournament in Mahwah.
Marcus Kayal netted one goal while Jake Garza and James Kessler had one assist apiece for Mahwah, which had a total of nine shots and scored the game-winner with less than three minutes remaining in the game.
Matt DeBenedetto and Riley Seeley each scored one goal while Luke Farrell made six saves for River Dell.
Mahwah will go on to face fourth-seeded Ramsey in the quarterfinal round on Friday.
